Coney Island News Ticker

What to do AFTER the Mermaid Parade!??

Yes, the summer is about to officially arrive on Saturday, June 20 at 1pm with the one and only Mermaid Parade taking off at Coney Island. Around 5% of the entire City of New York will be in attendance. You know the rules. Get there early. Take the subway. Find the highest spot on Surf ave. But what is there to do after the parade? Plenty! Here are some of the top places to go after the Mermaid Parade.

Margarita Island 1105 Bowery at W.12th. The crew at Margarita Island have really raved things up during their second season of existence! Their Mermaid Parade Party will have an outdoor BBQ and Tiki Bar along with DJ FK and DJ DJ Maximum. 21 to enter. Doors open at 11am.

Ruby’s Bar and Grill Boardwalk between W.12th and Stillwell ave. Coney Island’s oldest bar doesn’t change much, and we’re glad! There used to be a time when we would watch the Mermaid Parade from Ruby’s back when there were only about 5,000 people attending the parade and the march-past was on the Boardwalk. However, Ruby’s has stayed the same. Hang out with some of the regulars surrounded by the original Boardwalk wood. Always a good time!

Tom’s Coney Island  Boardwalk at Stillwell ave. Tom’s has really great food with an extensive menu which includes mixed drinks. There is take out as well as sit down service. Oh yeah and a roof top bar!

Place to Beach Boardwalk between Stillwell and W.15th. Place to BEach will be heating things up at noon with host Anthony Lamont, Love & Logic, Melissa Nikita, Nathan Kersaint, XPLOR. Mermaid attire is encouraged.

Peggy O’Neill’s Surf ave. in front of MCU Park. Take in great views of the parade and it’s aftermath at Peggy’s! Popular 80’s tribute band Radio Daze will be rocking throughout the day! Peggy’s is taking table reservations.

Coney Art Walls Bowery between Stillwell ave and W.15th. Jeffrey Deitch’s outdoor exhibit showcasing art by Swoon, Shepard Fairey, Lady Pink, Futura, Kenny Sharf, Daze, Lee Quinones, IRAK, Mister Cartoon and our favorite local artist and sideshow banner creator Marie Roberts!  Smorgasburg supplies the food vendors like Queen Cobra Thai and Red Hook Lobster Pound operating out of shipping containers! There is even a section where you can order alcoholic beverages.

Wahlburgers!

We’re kidding.

What about the Freak Bar?

Surf ave. at W.12th

Yes, the Freak Bar, voted by YOU, our readers, the most popular bar on all of Surf. ave! Home of Sideshows by the Seashore, the Coney Island Museum and Gift Shop, Coney Island USA which is the birthplace of the Mermaid Parade. Stop by after the parade and maybe you will catch a glimpse of King Neptune Mat Fraser and Queen Mermaid Julie Atlas Muz.

Of course, do we even have to mention? Why are you visiting Coney Island to begin with? The rides at Luna Park, the Scream Zone and Deno’s Wonder Wheel Park!

If you are heading back to the city at the end of the day and have a few dollars left in your pocket check out our friends local rock band The Dirty Pearls as they headline the Gramercy Theater, 127 E.23rd st NYC,  starting at 6:30pm. Tickets here.
