Coney’s Seaside Park Arts Center Officially a Construction Site

We have obtained the most recent rendering of the controversial Seaside Park Arts Center, which will bring back the landmarked Child’s Restaurant Building all polished off in it’s new nautical terra-cotta glory. TheConeyIslandBlog.com was the first to report that the inside of the building and surrounding area was being cleared away for construction.

The Hunter Roberts Construction Group has been tapped as the general contractor for the project which will be completed by Spring of 2016. The official NYC Buildings work permit is now posted on the wall.

A few of Hunter Roberts major projects include the stadium for the Red Bulls professional soccer team in New Jersey, the new parking facility at Yankee Stadium as well as consulting on the new World Trade Center Transportation Hub.

Hunter Roberts Construction Group is considered one of the the top ten contractors in New York State.

Take a look at the new more detailed rendering of the Seaside Park Arts Center.

Evidently, selfies will still be popular on the boardwalk in 2016.

  1. Beautiful – Much more important part of the project is the 5000 seat Amphitheater and Seaside Park attached. Also scheduled for May 2016. Please keep the updates coming on all aspects. Thanks!

  2. wow ….I hope the venue can bring popular artists for the younger crowd but minus hip hop we don’t want no shootings.

    • Then you shouldn’t come to coney island..hip hop is a major part of the music industries. U might as well come out and say you want no young blacks.

  3. Chris – 15 free concerts and 25 paid every summer in the amphitheater. Jon Scher – Metropolitan Entertainment will be the promoter –

The entertainment in the Childs Building – don’t know yet. I am praying for House of Blues or Hard Rock Cafe to take over the restaurant but I am probably dreaming. Amphitheater stage goes inside the Childs Building during the winter, so the performances go year round in Coney. I heard the restaurant can only seat about 300 though. Capacity is not great for winter concerts. Amphitheater much better – 5000 plus surrounding park brings it to 6 to 7 thousand capacity.

  4. Disgusting filth of a wretched boil! Burn everything and keep the dunes! We must return Coney Island to the skee ball paradise of 1970, so I may FINALLY redeem my bundle ‘o’ prize tickets at the Boardwalk Playland. Grrrr, I still want that chrome marshal’s badge on the top shelf!

  5. Coney Island is getting a revitalization makeover, and a 5000-seat outdoor amphitheater topped with a polyvinyl chloride (PVC) membrane roofing system is at the center of it. Estimated at $53 million, the Seaside Park and Community Arts Center is being designed as a year-round destination.

  6. Coney Island blog. Dubbed Seaside Park and Community Arts Center, the $50 million theater and community complex will be used to continue the free Seaside Summer Concert series started by former Borough President Marty Markowitz, and will feature paid shows as well.
