One of the largest community protests in recent memory is being held this Sunday on the Boardwalk at Coney Island Avenue. All week social media was abuzz with disgust for the plans to turn Coney Island’s Boardwalk into a sidewalk. Such popular sites like Amusing the Zillion really helped get the word out. Coney Island Historian Charles Denson brought up some valid points on the Coney Island History Project webpage.

Word about the boardwalk’s demise has even reached Hollywood. This morning I told former Brady Bunch star Susan Olsen aka Cindy Brady about what’s going down in Coney. She replied ” Oh that sucks! I love the boardwalk!”

The news has gone global. Jasmine, a recent visitor from Australia chimed in ” What? I wouldn’t travel thousands of miles back to Coney Island again to visit if they replace it (boardwalk) with a concrete and plastic sidewalk!”

Our community is grateful to have such strong supporters in Council Members Mark Treyger and Chaim Deutsch. These men in the past year have really stood strong for the community’s needs and interests.

See you at the rally 1.18

  1. Boardwalk has been falling apart for years and years. The real problem is fixing it not whether its wood imitation wood concrete and combinations of all. Put money into fixing it! That’s the real problem. People don’t want to trip and fall. I can’t count how many times my wife tells me watch out over there boardwalk is broken, or the planks are loose. Rallying for the wrong reason. Have fun guys!
