Wonder Wheel Hibernating Until March

@TheConeyIslandBlog

The Wonder Wheel is on it’s annual hiatus.

The reality of the end of the amusement season really hit home today as we watched it’s 24 cars dissembled this afternoon.

The 150 foot tall landmarked turned 95 this year. We know of at least three couples that got engaged on one of it’s cars this summer.

Originally owned by our former neighbors the Garms family of Stuart st. in nearby Marine Park, Brooklyn, the Wheel has been owned by the Vourderis family since 1983.

Look for the Wheel to be topped off by a lighted cross come Christmas time.

After nearly 40 million rides in 95 years the Wheel needs a well deserved break.

Sunday March 20th. isn’t far too far away.

    I was at the Cosmos game on Saturday and I could see the Cars were still attached. We get a super early Easter this year and as you say Palm Sunday is now Sunday March 20, 2016 only 4 months away
