IHOP To Open in April

@IHOP

Yes, it’s coming. IHOP of Coney Island will be opening the last week of April according to Patrick the project manager for the new Surf ave. location. Back in January of 2015  The Coney Island Blog was the first to report of an IHOP coming to Coney Island.  We were granted exclusive access inside the construction site this morning.

So why the year long delay? According to Patrick new building codes required a water proof wall to be installed on all businesses located on the north side of Surf ave. near W.12th. Upon learning of the new post-Sandy code, IHOP had to modify their plans for the Surf ave. location, thus causing the delay. Although the brick wall is visible today, he told us it won’t be as noticiable to customers once it is covered with the red, white and blue IHOP colors.

So yet another franchise will be opening up this season. Patrick told us that the owner of IHOP is happy to be finally opening in Coney Island and is excited about all of the jobs the new location will create for the area.

  1. Wonderful news, but the delays in these places opening is mindboggling. There is a sign in front of the Johnny Rockets building that states Cinnabon, Red Mango and Auntie Anne’s are coming soon…..Meanwhile how many years has it been since Johnny Rockets put up their sign 3 or 4??? Where is it? I will post the new sign on my blog tonight. The delays really make little sense. Love the franchises, Hate the delays…..

    Muscle 13, I saw all the signs for Johnny Rockets Building. That building has an entirely different set of structural issues. Like most people I was surprised when the guy at IHOP told me they would be open in 6 weeks. My guess was by the end of summer. He said no much sooner we’re going to open by the last week in April. Let’s wait and see.

  3. Thanks for the info. I appreciate it. I am just not believing the “structural issues” story you are hearing about the Johnny Rockets building. I remember the news of a Coney Johnny Rockets was released in 2012 in Newsday…….2012!!! Come on guys! Step up your game and get the building built! Amphitheater is opening July 4th! Coney Restaurant Business Will Boom!

  4. It looks like it won’t be done by than but we will see

  5. Any updates on IHOP opening date?

    I’m not asking them anymore. I don’t think they don’t know. Last time I asked they told me April. Johnny Rockets recently reapplied for their liquor license. So that tells us that they still plan to open here.

  7. Thanks man. A Coney Chipotle is opening this winter on Cropsey Ave.
