Michael Quinn

Jimmy Quinn was both my younger brother and best friend. The Brooklyn Cyclones organization was barely 3 months old when we lost Jimmy on September 11, 2001 at age 23. However, Jimmy was already their biggest fan. He was part of the inaugural opening day parade where he got to meet his childhood heroes Howard Johnson and Bobby Ojeda. Jimmy attended every home game that season. Cut directly from the DNA of the Brooklyn Dodgers, Jimmy grew up a die hard Mets fan. At age 10 he would sneak out of the house with just enough money to purchase two tokens for the D train that would take him to the Grand Hyatt Hotel where he would meet his favorite professional baseball players.

Jimmy not only loved the Mets, but baseball period. Shorly after I got him a job in the kitchen making Roast Beef sandwiches at Brennan and Carr he decided to bring the owner’s sons to Shea Stadium for their very first baseball game. There was nothing Jimmy loved more than enjoying a ballgame with friends and family. I remember our last meal together at Carolina’s on Mermaid ave, the Great Irish Fair and of course our last Brooklyn Cyclones game together. All spent in Coney Island.  All revolved around baseball. The community of Marine Park remembered him in 2002 as a permanent sign that reads Jimmy Quinn Way was proudly placed on the corner of Batchelder st. and Gerritsen ave.

Friends, family and fellow Mets fans can remember Jimmy once a year by doing what he loved most. Watching his Mets play at home. Every year since 9/11 about 200 guests clad in memorial t-shirts attend the annual game. We currently have 30 tickets left to sell by this Saturday. So join us for this special night.
