Alec Brook-Krasny Edges Out Lilikakis

Locally, the only surprisingly close race worth talking about today was our current State Assemblyman Alec Brook-Krasny against newcomer Republican Stamatis Lilikakis.

The affable and gregarious Brook-Krasny made history in 2006 when he became the first Soviet-born Russian speaking elected official in the New York State Assembly.

The race was extremely close the entire evening, in the end Brook-Krasny’s 58.3% bested Lilikakis’ 41.7%. The Democrat, Brook-Krasny had 8,512 votes to Republican Lilikakis’ 6,089 votes.

After the final results came through the ecstatic Brook-Krasny, whose son voted for the first time stated:

“Thank you to the voters of the 46th Assembly District for allowing me to continue representing you in the New York State Assembly. It’s an honor and a privilege. Congratulations to all my friends and colleagues who were victorious and thank you to those who ran and challenged us in the true spirit of democracy.”

In addition to Coney Island the 46th Assembly District also encompasses areas of Brighton Beach, Dyker Heights, and Bay Ridge.
